Dear Nikole Hannah Jones, I’ll never forget my freshman year at Ohio State when a black dude came up to the white girl with whom I was walking and scolded her for having some type of seashells in her necklace, because apparently Africans sold their brethren for seashells. I was shocked. I don’t know what I was more shocked about, the fact Africans sold each other for seashells or the fact he was angry at her for his ancestors selling each other into slavery for seashells hundreds of years ago.
